The projects below were done by Toledo, Washington students in previous years. The specification vary, but basically the requirement was to use one of each simple machine (lever, pulley, ramp) in a single contraption which is triggered by a quarter (coin) and ultimately reaches the goal of popping a balloon (or raising a flag 30 cm).

Mr Reimer, I like how your students used commonly found objects from around their home to build these machines/contraptions. And, like the automatic napkin example on the assignment sheet, the machines are so useful!
